Yoga is for everyone. Many times I am hearing this word. When people see the posture (asana) immediately say, Oh! I cannot do this posture, I cannot sit this way, it is impossible for me, but I would like to say everyone can do Yoga. The postures that you see could be difficult but there is an easier variation for every posture, which can be practiced by everyone. In beginning you don’t need to go in to the final pose. You don’t need to be flexible in order to practice yoga. But regular and sincere practice will make you flexible, supple, healthy, equilibrium and vital. Asana(posture)are specific position which opens the energy channels and psychic centers As we older we loose our flexibility in our body and slow down are metabolism system due to so many factors like irregular diet, poor posture, lack of awareness, lack of exercise, stress and tension, that makes our body stiff and tight. If we ignore the above, the stiffness and tightness turns into ache and pain and then it opens the door for disease. If we do regular practice of asana then energy flows freely into our body. Prana then begins to flow, as a result toxins are removed from our system and you will be able to bend and stretch in a relaxed manner, without having to do vigorous warming exercise. Asana which gives suppleness to our spine and our entire body calming our nervous system, by relaxing our muscles, by riving organ nervous center.
There are many limbs in yoga. Asana are not the only part of yoga. But it is the third limb of yoga. Other limbs include pranayama, meditation, shatkarma, savasana (relaxation), mudras and bandhas. In pranayama Sage Patanjali, in pranayama one can develop the power of concentration and clarity of thoughts, pranayama helps increase mental and physical power and endurance. We start breathing from the moment we are born until the last moment of life. Breath is life itself. Breathing is one of the powerful tools in yoga. If utilized in proper way, we can prevent many diseases. Many incurable diseases can also be cured by the power of pranayama techniques like asthma, cardiovascular problems, anxiety, stress, insomnia; we can prolong our life span by practicing pranayama.
Sathkarma means 6 kriya. These kriya helps purify the inner self. Sathkarma works on 3 dosha (fault). Vatta (wind), Pitta (acid), Cough (mucus). When these three dosha are imbalanced in the body this causes the disease. All 6 kriya are, dhauti, nauli, basti. Neti, kapalbhati, and trataka. Which provide a quick method of rebalance of mucus , biles and wind. Sathkarma’s are powerful and effective. They purify and harmonize our body. I had very bad sinus problem, it was not cured my many medicines but sutra nati helped me and I have no more sinus or headache problems ever.
Mudras too have a wonderful effect on physical, mental, and emotional area of our life. Which including the soul our feelings our moods and state of serenity. Our human body is made of 5 basic elements. And each finger represents one of these elements. Roots cause of all disease lie in the imbalance and improper coordination between these elements. With the help of mudra, this can be performed by touching or pressing our fingers in particular manner which create particular energy waves in our body. Each mudra setup a different link and has a corresponding different effect on the body, mind and prana. It balances our elements. Mudra is different hand postures and body postures. There are many mudras like gyana mudra, chin mudra, yoni mudra, hridya mudra, yoga mudra, kheri mudra, linga mudra etc. Our ancient great Sages have given us a wonderful treasure for happy and healthy life. But it needs little time on your part to study and get knowledge to apply it into your life. Yoga is the science which we get experience through our body, mind and soul. Today our ancient yoga is more popular in western countries. Many medical research scientists are working on it and get miracle results. It is now scientifically proven that yogic practice enlightens both spiritual and therapeutic value. Regular yoga practice improves resistance power to a great extent and also transforms ones personality in a positive way.
Experiences in real Life
How has yoga helped me?
First of all I must say my energy is sky hi and I now know how to keep it this way. By practicing yoga for the past 2 years I learnt the places in my body that prevented me from maximizing who I am and the different exercises that reached out to these areas to keep them in tip top shape, by strengthening, stretching and being aware of them and what could happen when they do not function properly.
I also realize that my success in life depends on one most basic and fundamental issue -- on my body’s ability to feel well. With a well body, good mind and good spirit I could accomplish any vision I create. As a result I have also become aware of why other people tend to fail even if they are brilliant and seem to have great ideas – perhaps they have poor bodily health.
“Looking back on my life a few months ago yoga was the last thing I ever thought I'd be taking. I currently work in the commodity market yelling and screaming on the trading floor. The last six months of 2002, I experienced a real dilemma that almost forced me to change careers from a job I loved doing for the past 10 years. The reason was a hearing loss that doctors concluded was CAPD (Central Auditory Processing Disorder). This is when sound enters the ear but doesn't get processed by the brain. The noise on the trading floor got so muffled that it made my life terrible. Imagine hearing speech around you and all of a sudden it becomes so unclear! I was determined to find out what was going on and conquer this problem... Yoga teacher Renu lit a candle, one of the methods in Meditation called Trataka and had us focus on it. I realized this was a difficult task for me but eventually got it down. During the hour and fifteen minute class I was yawning from being so relaxed. I went home and slept like a baby. I found myself attending more Tuesday night classes and feeling more relaxed and less high strung during the week. Most of all I felt more focused. Thanks to Yoga teacher Renu."
"To make a long story short I started feeling better with sound especially with background noise and am currently planning to go back to work soon. I believe yoga changed my life and helped me focus and get through most of this. Yoga can help change a persons life. Give it a try. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.”

Yoga is a necessity in the life of any human being to help combat the stressors that everyday society places on us.
Due to the kindness and encouragement of Her Holiness Sri Sri Guru Maa Jyotishanand Saraswati and Vedic Heritage, we are able to conduct our Yoga class at the Mandir.
