The common headache is one of the most common afflictions known to humankind today. Almost everyone has it sometime or the other. So, what is a headache? What hurts when you have a headache? Headaches are caused when there is a pain in a network of nerves which extends over the scalp and certain nerves in the face, mouth or throat. The muscles of the head and the blood vessels along with the surface and at the base of the brain also are the sensitive to pain since they contain delicate nerve fibers. The bones of the skull and the brain-tissues never hurt because they lack pain-sensitive nerve fibers.
These pain-sensitive nerves can be stimulated by stress, muscular tension, dilated blood vessels and other triggers of headache. These nerves send a message to the brain, signaling that a part of the body hurts.
Causes & Symptoms
The common cause of headaches are allergy, emotional stress, eye strain, high blood pressure, hangover, infection, low blood sugar, nutritional deficiency, mental tension and the presence of poisons and toxins in the body. Allergies also cause headaches.
