What is your belief of Hanumanji’s birth date? What is the birth place of Hanumanji? Where are the main temples of Hanumanji?
In my opinion, Sri Hanumanji was not an ordinary mortal being; He was Parbrahma Himself. Parbrahma cannot be bound by anything since by name and in form He is ‘Shunya’ i.e. He can appear in any form whenever He wants to. He was neither born, nor did He die. He is far beyond the cycle of birth and death. He is free of disease and any sad emotions. He is so divine that a low human being like me cannot even talk about Him. All the Puranas have different dates and different Leela’s about His birth – which proves once again that we cannot definitely define Baba’s birth-date.
One of the beliefs is that He was born on Tuesday, the Purnima of Chaitra Sulka , during the auspicious time of sunrise. Sadashiv was born as the Kshtrej son of Mata Anjana and Kesri Kumar to help Sri Vishnu.
The following are the different dates from the different Puranas or scriptures:
• Vaikhanas scriptures – Sravan Nakshatra, Purnima of Sravan month
• Valmiki’s Ramayana – Swati Nakshatra in the month of Aswin
• Anand Ramayana and Vrehjyotish – Ekadasi of Chaitra Shukla, Magha Nakshatra, Saturday
• Skandh Purana – Chaitra Shukla Purnima, Tuesday
• Agust Samhita – Kartika Krishna Chaturdashi, Tuesday, Mesh Lagna
• Surya Samhita - Kartika Krishna Chaturdashi, Saturday, Swati Nakshatra
• Vayu Purana – Ashvin Krishna Chaturdashi, Swati Nakshatra, Mesh Lagna
• In the Vayu Purana, the shloka
“Aashwinasth seethe pakshe swatyam bhoume marutih
Mesh lagnenjnagarbhat swayam jato har shivah”
meaning that, Bhagwan Shiv appeared from the womb of Mata Anjana on the Chaturdashi day of Swati Nakshatra in the month of Aswin, Krishna paksh of Mesh Lagna.
In almost all of India, Sri Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on Chaitra Purnima or Kartika Chaturdashi. However, from the point of view of sentimental devotees, all auspicious days are good enough to celebrate the birth of their Aradhya or Isht Deva.
Sri Hanumanji was born in Hampi, Karnataka in the caves near Pampa Sarovar. It has also been suggested that He was born in the Ranchi district of Bihar in the caves found about four and a half kms from the village of Anjan. Even today there are idols of Mata Anjana and Hanumanji.
